Fitting Instructions for Sapele Window Boards

Tools Required

• Tape measure
• Pencil

Step 1 – Measure the Window Recess

Measure the width and depth of the internal window opening carefully. Allow for the required projection beyond the finished wall or plaster line, together with any overhang desired at either end.

Check whether the walls are square and identify uneven areas that may require the board to be scribed for an accurate fit.

Step 2 – Cut the Board to Size

Transfer the measurements onto the Sapele window board and mark the cutting lines clearly. Use a sharp, fine-tooth saw to create a clean cut and support the board adequately while working.

Lightly sand all freshly cut edges to remove splinters and machining marks.

Step 3 – Dry Fit the Window Board

Position the board within the opening before applying adhesive. Check that it fits neatly against the window frame and surrounding walls, and use a spirit level to confirm that it sits correctly.

Complete any final trimming or scribing before permanently fixing the board.

Step 4 – Apply Adhesive

Apply a suitable high-quality grab adhesive to the supporting masonry, prepared base or timber battens beneath the window board.

Ensure that the board is adequately supported across its length and width. Larger or deeper boards may benefit from additional battens or discreet mechanical fixings.

Step 5 – Position and Level

Lower the board carefully into its final position and press it firmly onto the adhesive. Check the level from side to side and front to back before the adhesive begins to cure.

Use suitable weights, clamps or temporary supports where required to keep the board securely positioned.

Step 6 – Fill and Finish

Once the board has been fitted securely, fill small fixing holes or gaps using a compatible wood filler or flexible finishing product where appropriate.
