Jelutong Dyera costulata
Jelutong grows in Malaysia and southeast Asia, traditionally used by Pattern makers as its low density and straight grain make it a lovely Timber to work it holds an edge very well and is ideal for wood carved items. The colour is a cream / white.
Jelutong in addition to use for carving / joinery the standing trees are tapped for the natural latex that was used to make chewing gum ( now synthetic alternatives are used )
Jelutong is a great timber to use as an alternative to Lime and Basswood.
